Why is there a “petrol tank” on the bike?

Battery_RM1_Square_SideThe "petrol tank" can be used as storage. At the press of a button the top of the "petrol tank" opens, and inside you have 10L of lockable storage space. It's perfect for carrying valuables, motorcycling gloves, or a change of shoes. It also contains a USB-C charging port so you can charge a device while riding.

If you're considering a dual battery Maeving RM1, the tank is used to house the second battery. On this model, the two batteries run in parallel to give you improved performance and an additional 40 miles of range (up to 80 miles in total) vs the single battery model. This means you don't have to switch the batteries out when one is running low. The onboard computer will draw from both batteries so that neither one is run completely flat – this helps to optimise their lifespan. If you're running the bike off just one battery, it always goes in the silver rectangular section below the tank so that you can make use of the 10L lockable storage.
