Do I need a licence to ride a Maeving motorcycle?

RM2_Midnight_Black_Lifestyle_Riding_Solo_Hero

All Maeving models are classed as electric 125cc equivalents and therefore follow the same licensing requirements. This means they are treated in the same category as conventional 125cc petrol motorcycles for the purposes of UK road regulations and training, but with the added benefits of being fully electric.

In the UK, you only need a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate to ride a Maeving on public roads; a full motorcycle licence is not required as long as you meet the usual CBT conditions (such as riding with L-plates and not using motorways). This makes Maeving an accessible option if you are new to motorcycling or returning to riding.

For the RM2 specifically, if you wish to carry a passenger (also known as riding with a pillion), you will need an A1 licence, which allows you to ride light motorcycles without L-plates and with a passenger. If you are riding the RM2 solo, without a passenger, a valid CBT is sufficient, provided you follow all the standard CBT restrictions.

We have a New Rider Programme which reimburses the cost of your CBT once you purchase a Maeving. Learn more.
